Earth Day - 22nd April
Earth Day is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22nd 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by earthday.org including more than 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.
"This year, we rally behind the theme “Invest In Our Planet”, which highlights the importance of dedicating our time, resources, and energy to solving climate change and other environmental issues. Investing in our planet is necessary to protect it and the best way to pave a path towards a prosperous future. When we Invest In Our Planet together, we are supporting healthy, happy, and wealthy communities worldwide." Source: earthday.org
Earth Day is an excellent opportunity to have a conversation with friends and family about the impact our actions have on the planet. While small actions like saying no to a plastic straw seem insignificant in the moment, it all adds up when we do it repeatedly and collectively.
Here are 10 simple ways that YOU can Invest in Our Planet:
1 - Pick up any litter you see when out on a walk, at the beach or the park
2 - Organise a group of friends and do a beach clean up
3 - Check in on your plastic consumption
4 - Use reusable shopping bags
5 - Switch to receiving your bills online
6 - Take snacks when you head out and prep meals
7 - Buy food locally where possible
8 - Use a reusable water bottle
9 - Buy glass or paper products instead of plastic
10 - Use environmentally friendly cleaning products
Get your whole family involved and make it fun!
